Traveling in St. Louis, Mo

A recent trip to St. Louis, MO inspired me…

Recently, my family had the pleasure of vacationing in St. Louis, MO. and we had a wonderful time.  We camped at Jellystone Park, right down the road from Six Flags. That was awesome in itself!  The people were extremely friendly.  They had lots of activities for the kids too.  My daughter had a blast doing crafts, going on a scavenger hunt, a haunted hike and swimming in the pool. They have camper hookups, tent sites, and cabins. It is a great place to stay and we will always try to stay there when we can.

In St. Louis, we did LOTS of stuff.  We went to the St. Louis Zoo which is AWESOME and FREE too!  We had a wonderful time.  We got there when they opened and spent most of the day there.  The first hour they are open the carousel is free as is the Children’s Zoo.  We opted out of the Children’s Zoo as my kids are a little older and were too big to do some of the things in there.  But we still had a great time.  We loved every bit of it!  The only negative thing I have to say is that the food is WAY over priced but then again the Zoo is free so I guess this is where they make that up.  The Zoo in our opinion is a must do!

The St. Louis Arch was another favorite.  We enjoying just looking at it from outside but of course we did pay to ride the elevator up look out from the top.  It was a lot of fun and both our kids enjoyed it.  At the bottom of the arch is the Western Expansion Museum.  It is FREE and really wonderful.  We really enjoyed looking at all the exhibits and reading all about Lewis and Clark.  They also have movies you can pay to view.  We watched the Lewis and Clark one and really enjoyed it.  There are also a couple of stores at the bottom that have some neat items for purchase.  One of the stores is old fashioned and the employees even dress in old fashioned clothing.

Just across the park and street is The Old Courthouse.  It is free and again we loved it.  My kids loved walking through the old building and looking at the exhibits.  Their favorite was the Dred Scott area.  It explained the courtroom and the “players” and how it all works and also the particular case as well.  If you plan right you can watch reenactments.  It is a definite must see.

A favorite for my dear husband was the Anheuser Busch Brewery.  It had a really nice free tour and at the end you received 2 free samples.  They had free sodas for those who don’t drink or are underage.  This wasn’t all that for me but my husband thought it was wonderful so I can’t leave it out.

They have a really neat Science Center too.  It is free as well but they do have some things that cost.  We had a neat time in there.  We only had an hour and half before they closed when we got there and to do just the free stuff it was really plenty of time.

Six Flags!  Yes, we included this in our visit and had a great time.  My 10 year old daughter rode every thrill ride they had and loved every minute of it!  Again the food prices are outrageous but we just got our hand stamped and drove back over to our camper and ate a quick sandwich. As long as you show your parking receipt you don’t have to pay for parking again.  I have to say that early September was a great time go.  We seldom had to wait in line for more than 10 minutes and most of the time just walked right onto the ride.

This doesn’t not even begin to cover all there is to do in St. Louis but this is all we really had time for this trip. We can’t wait to go back sometime. In fact we wouldn’t mind living there.  We absolutely loved it!
