Mossbrae Falls Beautifully Springs to Life

Mossbrae Falls is a spectacular spring fed waterfall in California.
Mossbrae Falls is a luscious spring fed waterfall that drops 50 visible feet into the Sacramento River in Siskiyou County in Northern California near Dunsmuir. The water here flows right out of the ground from springs above the river and then tumbles over the green moss covered canyon wall in lovely fashion.

The water flows over the canyon wall along a wide roughly 150 foot long stretch at Mossbrae Falls and you think you are in Shangri-La watching this. It is somewhat reminiscent of Burney Falls because it is spring fed but is much more delicate a waterfall.

Another unique thing about Mossbrae Falls is that you have to walk along Union Pacific railroad tracks to see it. There is a hiking trail from the Shasta Retreat in Dunsmuir that goes along the Sacramento River and passes right by Mossbrae Falls after about a mile. The UP railroad tracks also follow along the river and you hike right next to them so watch for trains if visit here.

You can reach the Shasta Retreat on Scarlett Way in Dunsmuir which is a right turn off Dunsmuir Ave.
