I love to travel and have done a ton of it, but still not enough for me. I have been to France and St. Lucia in the Islands and Puerto Rico and also have seen a lot in the United States, but still I have the travel bug so was born my mini vacations.

I work very hard at my job and then home I go to take care of the house, the partner, cook the dinner, do the dishes, wash the clothes, feed the cat and then around 9 o’clock I stumble into bed and collapse from exhaustion.

Life to me should be much more fun like it used to be a few years ago. Always running, always having fun. Times have changed and to de-stress I go on mini vacations.

Ya, ya pipe down I know, I know I have been telling you about these mini vacations but have not mentioned where I go.

Well yesterday I went to the beach. It was a beautiful day and who on earth wants to sit inside a box of an office when they can hit the sand? I sat on the sand and soaked up as many sun rays as I could. I have never in my life been quite as white as I am this summer and was working on that tan or not tan of mine. I relaxed and enjoyed my surroundings. Diet coke in hand with sand between my toes and on my blanket.

Kids running along the waters edge running from the waves before they crashed the shore. Their laughter totally took over me as I rejoiced at watching those tiny little feet hope and pray they would not get caught by the next wave. As a looked up at the sky there flew above me the biggest kite I have ever seen. It was so colorful and flying gracefully high in the sky, that’s when I noticed the sky, how blue it was and those clouds how puffy white they moved slowly across the sky. There was a very light breeze blowing and I could taste the salt in the air.

I decided it was time for a dip in the water. Now the East Coast’s water is always cold, refreshing and wonderful and today it was the same way. As I walked into the salty murky water I could feel the coolness from the water. It has been so humid the past few days and this is just what I needed. This was a fast trip to the ocean but a well deserved and needed time to re-coop.

Last week I went strawberry picking. July is the time of the season and the patch was calling my name. We live in the city and the smell of the country air is what I needed. I packed a picnic and off to the country we went. The drive in itself makes you see life on a different plain. As we approached the strawberry patch I could see and hear the sounds of the birds singing. I bent down in that beautiful place not a care in the world except to find the most luscious berries I could find. Being ever so careful as I part the plants to see if that perfect berry is hiding underneath. The world outside melted away. Only us and the berries and the beauty of nature surrounded us. Although the patch was filled with people it was just my friend, me and the berries. As we walked up and down the rows the box we held grew ever so full. It was over, it was the one day of the year for this harvest and once more it was coming to a close.

As we left with our treasures we decided to go into the woods beside a small stream to enjoy our picnic lunch. We found the perfect spot. It was a grassy opening very near the streams edge so we could dip our toes as we gobbled down those tasty morsels and for dessert we had some of our berries just picked still warm from the sun. After our wonderful relaxing lunch we laid back and into each others arms we laid. Yes we made love with the nature surrounding us. It was one of the most wonderful mini vacations we had encountered thus far. After we collected our clothes and our thoughts back to the city we was bound.

Another great place I visited this summer was home, Northern New Hampshire. This mini I took in the spring. Spring is my favorite of the seasons. Everything is new and bright green and just looks amazing. Home is always home no matter where we live and there is no difference for me. On the highway as I got close I could see those beautiful mountains coming into view. Those mountains live inside me all the time. They also call to me now and then and tell me its time for a visit, that they miss me and I miss them. No matter where I go I always miss those high peaks and there surroundings.

As a look across the glorious mountains the trees are beginning to get there new leaves. that light green on tender newness takes my breath away. As I continue on north I can see the river. That river has too many memories for me to recall but I will say I am glad it cannot talk… This was a short trip but the scenes always make me breath easier as I know home still is there. Back to the city I go for another week of work and being the responsible one taking care of everything and everyone.

Last week my partner called me on the phone and I asked him would you come with me on a mini vacation? Of course he thought I was crazy as many do but he asked me what I was talking about. I told him to close his eyes and listen carefully to what I was saying. I took him with me that day strawberry picking. I explained everything I just explained to you here now. I walked him through the whole scenario and then I told him it was time to go back. I told him to open his eyes and asked him if he felt better, he said yes and I thanked him for going with me on this wonderful adventure. He thanked me that evening when I got home for helping him get through a very hard day.

This is a sample of my mini vacations but the thing I now will reveal to you is that all of these mini vacations I took in my mind. When I get stressed from the day I take a break. Not a regular break like most people do but I go on a mini vacation to regroup and be able to complete what needs to be done. Anyone can do this, its simple and its free and it is most relaxing and enjoyable.

So the next time life seems to be throwing you more than you can handle, take a break, close your eyes and go any place in the world you want to go. I guarantee when you come back from your mini you will feel refreshed and able to complete what needs to be done.

Let me know where you have visited and what you saw. Who knows where the next trip will take us all.

A mini-vacation! :) Considering I’m going to Hawaii this Friday, I guess that counts as one.

Though Puerto Rico sounds like a nice place to go- maybe in time.

Lindalulu, those kind of vacations I too can take and I must admit I do.My favorite place is a small cottage on top of a broomsage hill. At the bottom of the hill is a grove of trees and a swimming hole. Honey suckles and wild azaleas are blooming and the sky is always blue. Consider yourself invited to visit there any time you please.
