As anyone who has hiked up in the White Mountains knows, New Hampshire has an abundance of waterfalls.

Here are some of the most beautiful waterfalls the Granite State has to offer.

Glen Ellis Falls

Glen Ellis Falls is located along the Ellis River in Pinkham Notch in Gorham, New Hampshire along Route 16. Not the highest waterfall in New Hampshire by any means at 65 feet but certainly one of the prettiest.

The Basin

Though only 8 feet in height The Basin is a picturesque waterfall that spins the Pemigewasset River in clockwise fashion around the granite below where over the past 25,000 years it has carved the lovely 12 foot deep pool below. The Basin is located in Franconia Notch State Park off I-93 and Route 3.

Avalanche Falls

Located along the Flume Brook in Franconia Notch, Avalanche Falls drops some 25 feet in beautiful fashion. This waterfall was discovered by 93 year old Jessie Guernsey as she was fishing in the area in 1808.

Jackson Falls

Located near the center of Jackson Village along Carter Notch Road off 16A is Jackson Falls. Shown hear in the fall during a dry spell along Wildcat River, Jackson Falls is a series of waterfalls that drops a total listed height of 80 feet. The area is very popular in the summer for sunbathing, swimming and some weddings are also held here each year.

Located in Franconia Notch along the Flume Loop Trail off Route 3 is the 60 foot high Liberty Gorge Cascade on Cascade Brook.  No swimming here as the area is too steep but offers a fine viewpoint along the trail.

Sabbaday Falls is located just off the Kancamagus Highway along Route 122 in Waterville, New Hampshire. It is a three tiered waterfall that drops a total of 40 feet along Sabbaday Brook.

Beaver Brook Falls

Located along Beaver Brook right off Route 145 between Colebrook and Stewartstown Hollow is the impressive 112 foot high Beaver Brook Falls.

Beede Falls is a very interesting looking waterfalls that glides and drops some 37 feet along the Bearcamp River in Sandwich Notch. The pool below the falls is a popular swimming hole and the Beede Falls can be reached by taking Sandwich Notch Road (starts out as Diamond Ledge Road) north from Center Sandwich, New Hampshire.

A pretty multi-tiered waterfall located along Bemis Brook in Crawford Notch that visitors will pass on the Arethusa Falls Trail. Bemis Brook Falls drops some 30 total feet.

Appalachia Waterfalls is a series of falls along Cold Brook and Snyder Brook off Route 2 near the town of Randolph, New Hampshire.

Silver Cascades is a long stretching waterfall down the side of Crawford Notch right off Route 302. The total drop for the Silver Cascades is roughly 640 feet and a portion of that is visible right from the road.

One of the waterfalls located at the Castle of the Clouds Estate built by shoe manufacturing millionaire Thomas Plant and his wife Olive in the Ossipee Mountain Range above Lake Winnipesaukee in Moultonborough, New Hampshire in the early 1900’s.

Rocky Gorge Falls is a 12 foot high cascading waterfall located on the Swift River and is also known as Upper Falls of the Swift River. This waterfall can be reached easily along Route 112 west of Conway.

Estimated at roughly 160 feet in height as the Bemis Brook drops over a granite cliff, Arethusa Falls is located in Crawford Notch off Route 302 about 1.5 miles south of Willey House. The falls are named for the nymph Arethusa from a Percy Bysshe Shelley poem.

Purgatory Falls

Located in the southern part of New Hampshire along Purgatory Brook is the 30 foot high three tiered Purgatory Falls. The falls are located on Purgatory Falls Road in the Purgatory Gorge between Mont Vernon and Lyndeborough.

Located along the Falling Waters Trail in Franconia Notch opposite Lafayette Campground is the 80 foot high Cloudland Falls which is fed by Dry Brook.

Flume Gorge Falls

Perhaps the most popular waterfalls in the state, the Flume Gorge Falls are located along Route 3 in Franconia Notch about 5 miles north of Lincoln. The walkway here always visitors to walk right through the gorge next to the falls. Avalanche Falls listed above is part of the Flume Gorge.
