Hiking in Mount Washington New Hampshire is no walk in the park.
Hiking and backpacking enthusiasts will love the Mount Washington hiking trail in New Hampshire. Spectacular views and beautiful scenery, specially in the fall season make this an ideal trail for the experienced hiker. As the name suggests, this is not going to be the easiest trail you have ever walked and is really only to be attempted if you are reasonably fir and have a measure of experience in hiking.
Reaching a height of more than 6,000 feet, Mount Washington is a fair challenge even for the most seasoned hill-walker. As you would expect, you have a choice of trails which allow you to determine how far you will walk on your outing. Some of the trails are more manageable than others which means you can enjoy a good hike within your own limitations.
This is no stroll in the park!
Most hikers tend to stick to the TUCKERMAN RAVINE TRAIL which is the easiest of the bunch and will take you to the summit with least trouble. If you want to take a less crowded trail, this is possible but you will have to be prepared for a more strenuous ascent. But then again, this might be exactly what you are looking for. Who said hiking was easy? The BOOTT SPUR TRAIL for example, may well be more of a physical challenge, but you are rewarded with more scenic views as a result.
Another alternative is the LION HEAD TRAIL which again is more testing than the popular Tuckerman Trail. The thing you will notice about this particular trail is how steep it becomes and is a great deal rougher than the others. In fact, if you plan to use this trail, you may want to use it to ascend and come back down by another way. Yes it is that steep! Take the time to look carefully at the plans of the hiking trails before you decide which route to take. Speak with fellow hikers who have tried the trails and listen carefully to their recommendations. Better safe than sorry.
Don’t be fooled into thinking that Mount Washington is an easy trail. For the novice hiker, it could prove to be a real shock if they underestimate the difficulty and fail to appreciate that coming down can be as much of a challenge as going up. Safety is the key word and this means also taking into account the current weather conditions. Hiking can be an exhilarating pastime but as the most experienced hikers will tell you, it can be dangerous if you fail to take basic precautions. Enjoy your trip to Mount Washington, New Hampshire, but treat it with respect.
