A restaurant review of an authentic Roman style restaurant in NY City’s West Village. A great place to experience the traditional, rustic cuisine of Rome in the USA.
If you’ve never been to Rome, Italy and don’t foresee going there anytime soon you can experience an authentic Roman style restaurant in the heart of NY city, no passport is required! A true Roman experience is guaranteed for anyone that experiences the heart and soul of ‘Quinto,Quarto’ creation of David Ranucci, one of Italy’s famous restaurateurs. David describes this newest creation with nothing less than contagious enthusiasm. “Quinto, Quarto” is as an ‘osteria’ that serves recipes in the ‘cucina povere ’style or peasant kitchen style of Italy’s past.
What is an ‘osteria’? The word is derived from a Latin one which meant ‘guest’. In the Middle Ages the ‘osteria’ in Italy, was a place where one could find food, drink and lodging. An ‘osteria’ can be compared to what we know in America as a tavern. They are historically informal and usually serve more rustic fare.
After the success of his two restaurants in Milan- “Giulio, Pane e Ojo” on via Muratori and adjacent “Casa Tua Osteria”. He then continued his success in Montecarlo with another osteria named “Cacio e Pepe”. And the success continues all the way to the Big Apple with “Quinto, Quarto”.
Every local restaurant has their own story. But the inspiration of ”Quinto Quarto’ is to bring a dignity to the art of traditional Roman style restaurant cooking.
The cooking at “Quinto, Quarto’ is headed by Corrado Villella. Together with his colleagues they dish up traditional Tuscan and Roman classic recipes to tempt the sophisticated palates of New York city diners. Here , in the center of NY city, you can get a true, authentic experience of dishes like Bucatini all’Amatriciani to Spaghetti alla Carbonara, Pappa alla Pomodoro and Saltimbocca alla Romana and many more.
You can also enjoy brunch here with a traditional ‘frittata with potatoes and onions or radicchio. (A Frittata is an Italian version of an omeletter).
Quinto Quarto is an intimate place, romantic, but informal and relaxing. One can enjoy a night out in two or with a table full of friends.
Quinto Quarto is located in the West Village at 14 Bedford St, NY, NY. Brunch and Lunch are $20, First courses are $11, Second courses are $16-$19, Desserts are $6.
