Tokyo lost the first place in Economist’s index, which measures 130 cities by 160 prices of products and services.
According to Economist survey, published yesterday, Zurich has become the world’s most expensive city for residential. Strengthening of the Swiss franc last year helped boost the city in 4 places and replace Tokyo in the first place.
The index examines 130 cities worldwide, using weighted average prices of 160 goods and services. Life standard of living in New York City is set to 100, and is the basis for comparisons with other cities. Strength of various currencies and economies around the world is reflected in changing place of cities compared to the index in recent years. Sydney, for example, went from 71th place to the 7th one in the last ten years, while New York fell from the 7th to the 47th.

I hope Vancouver is a little ashamed of itself for being so high on the list. Is it the high cost of umbrellas or what?

I live in an expensive city – though it’s not on the list. The prices are killing me, or maybe I’m just cheap. lol.
