A look at the beauty of Gros Morne National Park to give you a glimpse of what this wonderful place offers it’s visitors.
Gros Morne is one of the most spectacular sights anyone could ever want to see. It is a part of Newfoundland that all Newfoundlanders are proud of and enjoy visiting along with many outside visitors every summer. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site and rightly so. This will give you an idea of the beauty that this part of the world holds.

The Long Range Mountains which is an extension of the Appalachian Mountains just happens to run the whole length of western Newfoundland but Gros Morne is lucky enough to encompass the most dramatic section of these mountains which included approximately 1800 square km of wilderness and coastline. This makes for a spectacular destination for visitors to walk, hike, sea kayak, bike, backpack and this is only during the summer months and in the winter there is skiing and snowshoeing.

Gors Morne has so much to offer such as mountains, fjord lakes, deep bays, sandy beaches, and volcanic rock coastlines, wide valleys that have beautiful flowing rivers, boreal forest, arctic alpine barrens and the Table Lands which are an outcropping of mantle rock. Besides the spectacular scenery, Gros Morne also has a geological history. Gros Morne is blessed with wildlife such as Arctic Hare, Rock Ptarmigan, Woodland Caribou and the Moose density is higher here than anywhere else on the island or in North America.

Gros Morne encompasses seven small Newfoundland communities which were started around the 1800’s. They started as migrating fishing communities but it came to a point where fishing families would stay the winter rather than leaving to return to France and England and returning in the spring. Today in these same communities you will find the same lifestyle built around self sufficiency and ingenuity this community had back then.

Today you will find these communities geared towards the tourists that pour in during the summer. There are bed & breakfast, inns, hotels, cottages and campgrounds. There are also beautiful places to eat. Nature based tours and places to purchase crafts of all kinds. There are grocery stores, local entertainment, visitor’s information to help you find your way around the areas and transportation is available. You will find that most of the communities can be found along the scenic coastline or tucked away in the fjord of Borne Bay.

It is a place that will stay in your memory forever. Words alone can’t describe the beauty of this wonderful National Park so you’ll just have to come and see just how stunning every inch of this park and what it offers.
