All lakes are different, some packed, others empty. Hyco Lake is both!

The above oxymoron describes 2 very different days at NC own Hyco Lake.

The Week

During the week at Hyco you will find maybe 2 or 3 boating vessels on the lake. The water will be like glass and it will be the perfect time to learn most water sports. Its also a great time to take a slow drive down the lake for there will be very little wake in your way. This is the prime time to get some fishing done on Hyco, with no to little wake, silence, and no boats scaring the fish away, this is the best time to catch some fish.

Why is it like this? The reason is, Hyco is mainly used by the people that own houses there (not stopping those who don’t)people that have houses there (due to cost and location use them as vacation homes and will mainly go up there on the weekends which is the segment I’m getting to.

The Weekend

If your out of water tubing or want to hit some really big wake, Hyco lake weekends are for you!Tons of boats are all over the lake, people are gunning it as fast as they can go and riders are water skiing, tubing, knee boarding, and anything else they can possibly do. Fishers stay away waiting until the week to get their fishing in. The Lake belongs to the fast lane.

Location

Hyco is located between the Person and Caswell County lines (North Carolina), other wise known as…nowhere. If your looking for a quiet…very quiet life or vacation this area is perfect for you. There is almost never cars on the roads (except for weekends) and the 3 restaurants nearby offer good southern food and low prices.

The Lake

The lake itself is man made and has a power plant on it. The Plant is in a hidden spot near the middle of the lake and is only visible from that area. The house i have there is in a cove and the Plant isn’t visible from anywhere around the house. Average water level for this lake is about 20 feet deep. With 3750 acres of surface area and 160 miles of shoreline that  crosses the Virgina border, this 44 year old lake (2009) has well over 1200 homes and over 2800 people living near the lake, its truly the Quiet Race Track
