A person who dies at midnight on Christmas Eve will go straight to heaven because the gates of heaven are opened at that time.

West Lawn Cemetery is five acres and has about 5385 burials. It was laid out in 1854, the same year it was purchased by Mantua township trustees from Doctor A.J. Squire. In 1874 the area to the north was added and in 1908 the land to the west was added.
A few notable people buried here are:
William Koerlin (1912-1938) was a Golden Gloves lightweight boxer. He died after an operation to remove a dental plate he swallowed in his sleep. The townspeople put a trophy on his grave: it was stolen in the 1990s-a high school prank, but was later returned.
Neil White (1931-1999) .The writing on his gravestone give recognition of his commitment to the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s.
