Columbus, Ohio is the capital of the state of Ohio. Founded in 1820, and named for explorer Christopher Columbus. Below is a list of activities, and events that make Columbus, a special city to live in. Columbus is mostly known as the Buckeye state, as it host one of America’s largest universities, The Ohio State University.
Columbus is home for many diverse sports. Sports including:
- If you are big fan of hockey, Columbus Blue Jackets, an ice hockey team based right in Columbus, Ohio. The team has qualified for Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2009.
- Fan of football? No problem, Columbus is home of division I-A team, the Ohio State Buckeyes. The team is member of the Big Ten Conference of the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
- Columbus also features the Columbus Crew stadium. The Columbus Crew Stadium was founded in 1999, and it was America’s first soccer-specific stadium. This stadium is home of the MLS soccer team, Columbus Crew, America’s Hardest Working Team. The Columbus Crew recently won the Major League Soccer Cup in 2008.
- Recently opened, Huntington Park is the new home of the Columbus Clippers, a Triple-A minor league baseball team in the International League.
- Last, but not least, The Ohio State Buckeyes men’s basketball team, who represents Ohio State University in NCAA Division I college basketball.

- There are many different places to visit here in Columbus, Ohio. Starting from Government buildings including: The Ohio Statehouse, The Ohio Supreme Court, and, LeVeque Tower.
- Downtown Columbus features the Replica of Christopher Columbus’s ship, The Santa Maria, right on Scioto River.
- The Ohio State University is currently the largest single-campus university in the United States. Ohio State is ranked by U.S. News & World Report as the best public university in Ohio, among top 150 universities in the world.
- Columbus Museum of Art, and The Wexner Center for the Arts, has a collection focusing on European and American art.
- COSI, in formerly known as the Center of Science and Industry, is a science museum in Columbus, Ohio featuring more than 300 interactive exhibits.
- Columbus also has many outdoor attractions such as Franklin Park, Schiller Park, and Goodale Park.
- Columbus is the home of many performing arts institution, including Opera Columbus, the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, and more!
