The best bait to use is what we call grubs. One inch, fat, white worms that that you can dig up out of our rich soil. Then you want to put the worm snug on the hook, put your weight about six inches up on your line because you will be bottom fishing. You will want to use a sturdy pole and at least 50 lb fishing line because most of the catfish that you will catch weight 50 lbs or more which make a great plaque for any fisherman’s wall. The best time of the day to go is late evening around 8:00 pm as the sun is starting to set on our beautiful state. Make sure that you take a lantern and plenty of mosquito repellent because you are going to be there for awhile. You can go just about anywhere in the state and find a good fish fry from the catch of the night before. Where you can eat plenty of potato salad, watermelon, catfish and of course topped off with ice cold beer. Another popular way to catch catfish here in Oklahoma is called noodling, famous at Lake Thunderbird. 20 miles SE of Oklahoma City. Noodling is where you wade in the water about waste high and run your hand along the bottom of the water. As soon as you feel the catfish, you ram your fist in his mouth swinging up in a quick motion and then quickly cast him to the shore. This type of fishing is not for the week because the catfish have teeth and they will take the skin off of your arm. But for you manly men, noodling is the way to go. The best time of the year to fish for catfish in Oklahoma is from the months of March till June. Beware though, our fish are pretty smart and it takes a lot of patience catching them. After all they didn’t get to be 100 lbs by being stupid. Good luck and happy fishing.

I don’t know where this person recieved their information but I know for a fact the best lake for catfishing is Lake Texoma. This lake has produced over the years large cats. These waters I have been fishing since I was a child with my Grandfather. It holds the Oklahoma and Texas Lake records for Big Blue Catfish. And in the article she say’s that the best bait to use is grubs that is not true. The best bait to use for Big Blues is whole or cut shad that is the bait of choice. If you are wanting to fish for FlatHead Catfish the bait of choice is Perch. It would just be nice for people that report on fishing just get their facts straight than everone could catch more fish.
