Places to Go: Hyner View

The first of my new series called “Places to Go”. This series will give you ideas and suggestions on places to visit if you are on a trip or are just in a particular area looking for something to do! This time it features Hyner View in Pennsylvania, and is a popular spot for hang gliding.

This place is located near Renova, Pennsylvania and is nestled in the Appalachian Mountain Range. It’s actually two state parks that are next to each other, Hyner View State Park and Hyner Run State Park.

The photo above is a picture I took at the Hyner View scenic overlook. It overlooks the town of Renova and a nearby village as well as the river and a miles wide stretch of the Appalachian Mountain Range. The scenery is very beautiful and has a couple hundred feet drop to the bottom of the valley, making it a popular spot for hang gliders. So if you enjoy the sport, there is an office where you can register at the bottom of the road leading to the overlook. Or if you’re not brave enough to jump off the cliff yourself, you can always watch other people soar down the cliff and snap some amazing photos!

But be warned, the road up the mountain is narrow and winding, so big vehicles are not ideal. Although a large motorhome did make it up while I was there. It is still well worth the while for the view at the top!

If you would like to stay overnight in the park, there are campsites. The parks are not as large as most and don’t offer a big variety of activities, but do have fishing, swimming, and some hiking. So if you just want a quiet place to pitch a tent and relax, then the campsites would be ideal. And there are a few cabin rentals available for those who don’t want to rough it out in a tent or don’t have a motorhome or trailer. Some spots are located on river front property!
