The Hidden Passage trail is a ten mile looping trail that starts in the corner of Picket State Park on the outer edge of the Big South Fork in Tennessee. I did this hike with Sarah and my son’s boy scout troop in a couple of hours one afternoon. There are several benches located along the trail which make great spots to stop for a snack or lunch. I like stopping and listening to the wildlife in the area. I figure you can never get enough of the simple things in life. Hiking gives you a new perspective and pace at which you can enjoy your surroundings if you let it. There is a waterfall on a side trail that you can go see if you don’t mind an extra mile or so. For the more adventurous people you could continue onto the John Muir trail which is fifty miles or more. Maybe one day I will give that a try but I don’t think I’m ready just yet. This trail is not real difficult the hardest part really is the distance. Some of the boys that went with us had never hiked more than a mile or two and they managed just fine. Of course they were a bit sore and very tired but that wasn’t so bad. Make sure you carry plenty of water as there are limited spots to replenish your supply along the trail.
