I read that the movie Waiting To Exhale is going to go on without Whitney Houston.  I was surprised by that decision and wanted to share the story with you.

The news
The filmmakers of the movie Waiting To Exhale plan to go on filming the sequel without the late Whitney Houston.  The sequel was planned before Whitney Houston’s untimely death.  The filmmakers still intend to carry on with the sequel.

For those who are not familiar with Waiting To Exhale, it is a movie based on the book written by author Terry McMillan.  The movie starred Whitney Houston, Angela Bassett, Loretta Devine, and Lela Rochon.  It is about four women dealing with relationship issues.  Waiting To Exhale was released in 1995 and was a hit movie.

The sequel to the movie will be based on Terry McMillan’s book “Getting To Happy”.  Forrest Whitaker (who directed the first movie) is supposed to direct the sequel.  All of the lead actresses (including Whitney Houston) were supposed to reprise their roles in the sequel.  There is talk that Oprah Winfrey may take on a role in the movie.  There are rumors that she may replace Whitney Houston in the movie.

According to a Fox president, moving on with the sequel without Whitney Houston is a way to honor her.

My thoughts
I have seen Waiting To Exhale and I liked the movie.  I was interested in seeing the movie because Whitney Houston was one of the stars in the movie.  I don’t think that it is right to move forward without Whitney Houston.  She was one of the main characters and it would be strange to see the movie without her.  The cast had chemistry with each other and it won’t be the same without her.

If they do proceed with the sequel, I don’t think they should recast her in the movie.  The writer should kill her character off instead of replacing her.  In my opinion, no one can play the part the way Whitney Houston did.

What are your thoughts on Waiting To Exhale going on without Whitney Houston?  Do you think it is a good decision?  Do you think the sequel will work without Whitney Houston? Do you think someone else could play the part better than Whitney Houston?

Great article, I understand where your going with your article, I don’t think it is a tribute to Whitney; but the sad reality is that life moves on.
I personally don’t know what is the right thing to do is thou.

That idea is good. They should create a new character instead of getting someone else to play hers.

Maybe no other actress can portray it better than Whitney, but I would love to watch the sequel and relive Whitney.

Her death was so sad but life has to go on with or without her.

Had they already started making the movie, if so they will have to shoot many scenes over, I wonder who they will find to replace Whitney Houston. I don’t believe Oprah could replace her but she would be good in another role. I liked waiting Waiting to Exhale.

I haven’t watched the movie, but I think replacing Whitney Houston with other people for the same character in the sequel doesn’t sound like a tribute to Houston.

Cheryl, I would have something happen to her, maybe a reunion so they can go to her funeral. I might add Oprah as one of her relatives to tell the others about her last days just to help give the others closure.

Thanks for sharing, Cheryl.

“If they do proceed with the sequel, I don’t they should recast her in the movie.” – you’re missing the verb “think” in your sentence.

They have to re-write the story instead, or find a plausible solution for it.

haven’t seen the film. But I guess, it would be better not to replace her.

I don’t think that they mean to do it as an insult and I am sure that they would probably include in memory of Whitney Houston. I thougt that she was in the process of of working on the movie sparkle before she died.
