My Favorite Hotel

The Morrisson House Hotel and Old Town Alexandria, Virginia are my picks for a great relaxing get away.

If you want to feel special and pampered, but left alone too, then I highly recommend the Morrisson House located in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia.

From the moment you pull in front until the time you depart, this hotel, part of the Kimpton Hotel and Restaurant chain is a true delight. I can’t say enough good things about the entire staff. As soon as you drive in you will be greeted by an opened car door and a welcome. This hotel is also pet friendly and pet friendly is an understatement. Our little companions were treated as nicely as we were.

I would strongly encourage you to go to the Morrisson House website and take the virtual tour. If you are planning on visiting the Washington, D.C. area this is definitely the place to stay.

I was so impressed with how stately, warm and charming this little gem is. As our luggage was being unloaded in our room, there was a knock at the door. Imagine my surprise when a hotel staff person had an overstuffed bed for our dogs and a room service tray with two dogie bowls filled to the top with treats, right down to the plastic disposal bags. When they realized there were two dogs she immediately said she would get another bed. Naturally, as we became more aware of Morrisson House’s attention to detail, every time….and yes, I mean every single time….we would exit the elevator into the lobby, each staff person would acknowledge us with, “Hello Dexter, hello Jasmine and hello Mr. and Mrs. Page.” Oh come on now, that is just over the top and we loved every minute of it.

A walk down King Street offers an array of old shops, cafes and specialty stores. It is an enjoyable and beautiful stroll.

Then there are the restaurants. There are so many to choose from and so many that are so delicious. Our personal favorite is a la Lucia Italian Restaurant, located on Madison Street. The food is especially wonderful, with a great wine selection and pricing that doesn’t break the bank.

The Morrisson House and Old Town Alexandria, Virginia are a natural marriage and they are my pick for someone who is looking for a certain uniqueness and special feeling when planning their next get away.

Wow, sounds more like your dogs took you along and let you stay in THEIR room. How nice to find such a pet friendly place.

Great article. To the point, and will be good news for dog owners. Thanks.

We pretty much only stay at Kimpton hotels because we like to travel with our (awesomely behaved) golden retriever. We joke that they aren’t just pet friendly hotels, they are pet enthusiastic!

I think our Baxter has stayed at every DC area Kimpton as well as ones in Atlanta and New York.

Though other hotels allow pets, few actually seem happy to see a guest arrive with a one. We’ve signed some pretty scary pet policies, too. Kimpton’s policies are kind and thoughtful. They’re the best!
