Water Towers with Pizazz: Including the World’s Largest Catsup Bottle

Just when you think you’ve seen everything, think again. These massive water towers can’t help but capture your attention with their creativity and beauty. I think every city should design a cool tower of their own, after all, it is the one thing that most everyone passing by notices towering above the town.

This water tower in Collinsville, Illinois, is the largest catsup bottle in the world! It is 170 feet up there! Good job, Collinsville! It was built in 1949 and is in the National Register of Historic Places. Very distinctive if you ask me. This special tower has it’s own website and fan club: The Worlds Largest Catsup Bottle (and Fan Club).

Called the “Peachoid” or ”The Peach,” this water tower can’t help but claim the sky in Gaffney South Carolina. It holds a massive 1,000,000 gallons.

Now, how about a water tower turned into a house? This water tower was built to provide water to the resort village of Thorpeness, England, but eventually morphed into “the House in the Clouds.” This place has its own website House in the Clouds, and you can actually rent this unique structure for somewhere in the neighborhood of 3,000-5,000 dollars (2030 -3050 Euros) a week, depending on the time of year! It has 5 bedrooms, 68 stairs, and is fully furnished. Hey, even dogs are allowed.

This gorgeous beauty is the oldest ornamental water tower, built in 1856! Even more amazing is it was struck by a tornado in 1890. Thankfully it was repaired so we can all enjoy it today. It graces the view in Louisville, Kentucky. It is also on the National Register of Historic Places

One of the most famous, old water towers (built 1869) is in Chicago, Illinois. It, too, is a survivor. It survived the Great Chicago Fire. It is in National Register of Historic Places.

So keep looking up…you might see something unique. Some more amazing water tower photos are at:

I always wanted to live in a tower, but I don’t think I can afford the one in this article. Fun article with good pics.
